Search engine optimization?
You’ll find hundreds of sites about this as it is the most difficult part of making a website so I’ll just try to tell you the basics and if you wish to find out more you really shouldn’t have any problems in finding it.
First you must have Meta Tags (find out how to make them here)and Headings with content to suit,
The Headings in a webpage tell the Search engines what your page is about,
Having the words to match in the content confirm this,
Also the Meta Tags should all say the same thing too.
For Example:
A site targeted at Jim Carrey Fans would have its Meta Tags:
Description: A Jim Carrey Fan Site for fans of Jim Carrey
Keywords: Jim Carrey, Fan, Films, Biography, Pictures
The Heading for the page would be
The J to Y of Jim Carrey
The HTML File would be called www.jimcarrey.com/jimcarrey.html
And the content of the page would go on and on about Jim Carrey in the form of a biography perhaps were his name would appear several times,
Then in theory someone searching for Jim Carrey on a Search Engine , your site would come up.
Submitting your site to search engines.
The easiest step as its as simple as going to Google and submitting,
However your meant to do this with all the search engines like Yahoo and MSN so on..
A lot of sites will claim to be able to do this for you for a small fee!
Getting Links to your site from other sites,
This will probably take up the most of your time,
Links are counted by Search Engines and the more you have the higher in results you are when people search for you,
Also links to your site from sites that have a lot of links themselves count for more.
This is why when you have spammers,
You’ll have a guestbook and Spammers will come and place a link to there website,
Thus, having a link to there site from yours, therefore they get another brownie point from the search engine.
Some sites also offer you to have a link to your site on there website,
So long as you link to them also, thus everyone’s a winner,
This site also does that you just have to email me your link to
(Chip at randomboo dot com) saying you’ve linked to me and I’ll place your link on the bottom of my main Homepage as soon as I’ve read my emails, which I do daily.
